Evanston police say a car was stolen in the 1700 block of Brown Avenue shortly after 8:30 this morning, after the owner left the keys in the ignition.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says the owner started driving around town in another vehicle looking for his missing car and about 9 a.m. found it in the possession of four people who had stopped to put gas into it at the station at 140 Chicago Ave.

However, all four of the thieves fled the scene and police have been unable to locate them.
