First-round pairings have been set for the Christmas tournaments involving Evanston’s boys and girls basketball teams at Centralia and Montini, respectively.
Evanston will make its first appearance at the 75th annual Centralia Holiday Tournament, which will be played Dec. 28-30 at the Downstate school. The Wildkits are matched against O’Fallon at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28.
Winner of that game will meet either Champaign Central or Lausanne Collegiate, one of five Tennessee schools that are part of the 16-team field.
Other first-round games at Centralia pit Mundelein Carmel against Mount Vernon, Alton against Germantown, Tennessee, Confluence Academy of Missouri against Cahokia, Belleville West against Collierville, Tennesseee, Centralia against Salem, and Marist against Arlington, Tennessee.
The championship game is scheduled for Dec. 30 at 9 p.m.
Coach Brittanny Johnson’s girls squad will return to the 9th annual Montini Christmas Tournament, which starts on Dec. 27 and concludes Dec. 30. ETHS opens against Proviso East at 11:30 a.m. on the 27th, with the winner advancing to meet either Hersey or Benet Academy.
Also paired in the first round are Geneva versus St. Joseph, Marian Catholic versus Lake Zurich, Montini versus Huntley, Marist versus Oak Park-River Forest, Batavia versus Nazareth Academy, and Mother McAuley versus Lyons Township.
