Now that all the presents have been opened, the question becomes how to dispose of that festive tree that brightened your home before it turns into a major fire hazard.
The answer: City of Evanston crews will pick up holiday trees from Monday, Jan. 3, through Friday, Jan. 28, and turn them into mulch.
Trees will be picked up on the same day of the week as your normal refuse and recycling collection.
Since it’s a city program, there are some rules:
- All trees should be placed on the parkway, in between the street and the sidewalk.
- Trees will not be picked up from alleys or private property.
- Do not place trees in plastic bags.
- Remove all lights and decorations from trees. These materials can damage equipment used to convert trees into mulch.
