Evanston police conducting checks on parolees this morning arrested one who they say was found in possession of 500 grams of cannabis and two .44 caliber bullets.

Marcus R. Johnson, 36, of 1112 Sherman Ave., now faces felony drug possession charges and a weapons charge.

Members of the police department’s special operations group, the sheriff’s department gang crimes north unit and parole agents from the state corrections department visited about 20 people in Evanston this morning who are parole or on electronic home monitoring awaiting trial.

‘Police say Johnson, who was on parole for residential burglary and aggravated battery, now has also been served with a parole violation warrant.

Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says the random checks on parolees are designed to assure that they are in compliance with the guidelines governing their release.
