A Chicago parolee has been arrested and charged in a burglary Saturday on Grey Avenue, and charges against him are pending a preliminary court hearing in another Evanston burglary committed on Nov. 26.

Kelly J. Skamra, 44, of 527 W. 14th Place, Chicago, was arrested in the 300 block of Dodge Avenue Saturday morning by Evanston police responding to a 9-1-1 call about a burglary in the 500 block of Grey.

At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of a laptop computer that was stolen in the burglary, and he was taken into custody, police said.

Subsequently, police learned that Skamra had been paroled on Oct. 19 after serving six years of a 12-year sentence for residential burglary in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Monday, police reported that, based upon fingerprint evidence from a burglary committed Nov. 26 in the 2800 block of Sheridan Road, Skamra may be charged in that burglary, pending a preliminary court hearing on Dec. 10. Skamra is also under investigation for possible involvement in other burglaries, police said.

Evanston police warned residents that residential burglaries are numerous during the holiday season and urged citizens to call 9-1-1 if they see anything suspicious.

    1. Good catch

You're right. The 300 block of Grey would put it in the parking lot behind the Levy Center. Actually it was on the other side of the Center…in the 300 block of Dodge Avenue.

      I've updated the story. Thanks.
