Evanston police say they’re seeking to determine who shot a 24-year-old man hit by gunfire as he stood on a sidewalk in the 1900 block of Asbury Avenue about 6:50 p.m. Monday.

Cmdr. Brian Henry says the victim was struck in the left side of his chest and was transported to Evanston Hospital where he’s listed in stable condition and is expected to recover.

Henry says it’s believed the shorts were fired from a white vehicle that was traveling north on Asbury.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Evanston Police Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) and then start the message with EPDTIP.

  1. the decline in safety

It is horrible to read that a ‘driveby’ shooting has been recorded in Evanston!  It seems that there are some among us that are determined to spoil our beautiful small city, to undermine its safety.  Of course, the perpetrator of this shooting probably wasn’t thinking about the well being of our citizenry;  for all we know he doesn’t even live in Evanston!  Crime seems to be increasing:  stolen bikes, damaged cars, snitched wallets and electronics, break-ins.  What is becoming of us?
