A 56-year old man was injured today when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Central Street and Green Bay Road.

Police say the man was walking eastbound in the south crosswalk on Central Street shortly after 11 a.m. when a car turning southbound onto Green Bay from Central struck him.

The pedestrian was taken with life threatening injuries to Evanston North Shore University Hospital for treatment.

Members of the North Regional Major Crime Task Force –  Major Crash Assistance Team were called out to assist traffic officers of the Evanston Police Department.

Update 4:40 p.m. 2/28/12: The driver, a 69-year-old Skokie woman, was cited by Evanston Police today for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.The pedestrian, an Evanston resident, is in critical but stable condition at the hospital.
