Evanston police this evening say they have a person of interest in custody for questionning in connection with the shooting death last week of 20-year-old Yakez Semark.

Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew says the person was taken into custody as police executed a search warrant on a property in the 2000 block of Emerson Street Thursday afternoon.

Glew says no charges have been filed against the man in custody, but that police are working with the state’s attorney’s office to determine whether charges should be filed.

Semark, a Chicago resident, was a 2015 graduate of Evanston Township High School. He was shot to death about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, in the 1800 block of Hovland Court.

Funeral services for Semark are scheduled for Saturday morning at Christ Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Evanston.
