The annual City of Evanston CommUNITY Picnic gives Evanstonians an opportunity to gather with their friends, family and neighbors at a free picnic in the park the day before students return to school.
Residents from neighborhoods throughout the City will celebrate the back-to-school season from Noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, in Ingraham Park. The park is located behind the Civic Center at 2100 Ridge Ave., Evanston.
The CommUNITY Picnic features free food, games and entertainment. New this year will be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a youth stage.
The fun also includes a performance by the Jesse White Tumblers, a second entertainment stage, balloon art, face painting, a dunk tank, bingo and board games.
CFL lightbulbs will be distributed free of charge. Children enrolled in School Districts #65 and 202 will attend the event will receive a backpack and school supplies, while supplies last.
