Dylan Mulvihill and James Allen pitched a combined 5-hitter and Evanston’s baseball team made the most of its 4 hits in a 6-2 victory over Lincoln Park in the opening round of the Class 4A Notre Dame Regional tournament Wednesday.
Evanston, the No. 4 seed in the Loyola Academy Sectional complex, will meet No. 5 Notre Dame in Saturday’s regional championship game at 2 p.m.
Evanston improved to 20-13-1 on the season by pushing across 1 run in the second inning, 2 runs in the third and 3 more in the fifth.
A Sam Evans sacrifice fly scored the first ETHS run. Singles by sophomore Charlie Maxwell (2-for-2 with 2 runs scored), Jack Blanchard and Eli Otting’s infield out helped boost the Evanston lead in the third. Otting tripled home Maxwell and then scored himself on Marty Fenn’s sacrifice fly in the fifth.
On the mound, winning pitcher Mulvihill allowed 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 2 before Allen came on to earn a 3-inning save. Allen yielded 3 hits, 1 walk and fanned 4.
