Piven Theatre Workshop has received a grant to launch a scholarship program for its project that provides theatre games and improvisation classes to adults with developmental disabilities.

The Kathleen Anna Norton Scholarship Fund is underwritten by a $10,000 grant from the Peyton Family Foundation.

The Piven Enrichment through Empowerment Program is designed to foster community, social, and creative growth among its participants.

Piven Executive Director Leslie Brown said the fund will provide students full access to the program at no cost to themselves or their families for the next year.

The 10-year-old program, Brown says, provides a nurturing ensemble setting in which the adults with developmental disabilities are encouraged to share their creative spirit through theater training under the guidance of Piven’s teaching staff.

The foundation is also sponsoring Piven’s annual fundraising gala on June 8 at Sunda Restaurant, Rockit Bar & Grill, and The Underground to support the PEEP program, scholarships, and outreach programs. For more information contact Piven Theatre Workshop at 847-866-6597.
