A long-lasting snow storm will keep snow plow crews in Evanston on 12-hour shifts for the first days of 2014.

Assistant Public Works Director James Maiworm says snow is expected to begin falling this afternoon with two to three inches on the ground by midnight.

Then on New Year’s Day, we can expect another two to three inches by noon and one to two inches more in the afternoon.

But that’s not all. Wednesday night into Thursday a lake effect snow watch has been posted and an additional six inches of snow is possible.

Maiworm says parking restrictions on Evanston streets “are certainly possible” Thursday and Friday “as we cleanup after this event.”
