Evanston police say they now believe the two shooting incidents over the past two days are related and that they’ll be stepping up patrols this evening as the investigation into the crimes continues.

In both incidents men were shot in the legs, and the shootings happened just over a quarter mile apart. Both victims are in Evanston Hospital with injuries considered to not be life-threatening.

City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz this evening said that Police Chief Richard Eddington has deployed additional officers into the field tonight and will assign extra officers to patrols as needed in the coming days.

In addition, Bobkiewicz says, staff from the city’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services Youth and Young Adult Division are working in the community with young people as a resource.

Anyone with information regarding the shootings are asked to call the Evanston Police Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040 or use the anonymous test-a-tip program by texting CRIMES (274637) with EPD TIP in message line followed by the tip information.
