Evanston police say five felony theft charges have been filed against a Des Plaines woman who cleaned homes in Evanston.

Five customers of the woman all reported coins and jewelry missing from their homes last month.

Police Commander Tom Guenther says detectives who interviewed the victims became suspicious about that coincidence.

When the detectives did a background check, Guenther says, they learned that the woman, Irena Cichanska, 46, of 1087 Hollywood St., in Des Plaines, had two outstanding theft warrants and arrested her on those charges.

Checking pawnshop records, the detectives were able to recover coins and jewelry stolen from the five Evanston victims, who Guenther said lost well over $10,000 in the thefts that may have started several years ago.

Cichanska is scheduled to appear in district court in Skokie on Dec. 15.
