Sheriff’s Deputies in DeKalb County say an Evanston man tried to run over a group of men fighting in the front yard of a DeKalb home with his SUV early this morning and then hit a squad car before fleeing the scene.

The DeKalb Daily Chronicle reports Gerardo Patino, 19, of the 1400 block of Brummel Avenue, faces charges of aggravated assault, fleeing to elude police, reckless driving and other driving violations.

Police, in a news release, said the incident started about 3 a.m. outside a home at 910 W. Hillcrest Drive in DeKalb, where a deputy had responded to a report of six people fighting.

They say that after hitting the squad car, Patino stopped to pick up a friend, Quinn M. Cahill, 18, of the 1200 block of Lee Street in Evanston and drove off.

The two were stopped following a foot chase after they abandoned the car on I-88 a short time later.

Cahill, police say, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
