Evanston police say a man tried to abduct a 16-year-old Chicago girl who was walking on Howard Street in Evanston last night.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says the incident happened about 9:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of Howard. The teen says she was walking home when she was approached by a man who tried to cover her face with a white rag or towel, but she was able to flee on foot and wasn’t injured in the incident.

The man was last seen heading northbound on foot through a parking lot in the 130 block of Howard.

The suspect is described as a short white male in his 50s, weighinb about 130 pounds and wearing a brown hat and brown vest.
