Amid all the illegal fireworks going off in Evanston Tuesday night to mark Independence Day, police say officers on foot patrol in the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue spotted a man firing a rifle in an alley.

Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says the officers heard gunshots and saw muzzle flashes near a garage on the block before the man fled inside a home there.

After an extended search of the garage and adjoining house, the police located a 28-year-old Evanston man believed to be the shooter and a rifle on the property.

No charges had been filed against the suspect as of early this morning.

  1. Curious if there were any

Curious if there were any charges filed in this case. If not, I find it really problematic and would be curious to find out more about the suspect (was he rich, white, etc.)

    1. No charges so far

Police tell me the suspect has been released without charges, pending the results of crime lab tests … and, in response to your query, that he’s not white.

      1. why did it happen?

I would hope htere is a charge of some kind.  I’m sure his neighbors want to know answers.

  2. Illegal Fireworks
This use of illegal fireworks has to stop. The amount of disturbance it causes for seniors and pets this year is unacceptable and unfair
to the rest of the residents who live here. We must as concern citizens hold town hall meetins with every official to come up with a solution to what is becoming a health as well as safety concern.
