Police nab fleeing suspect in burglary

(Update 4:20 p.m.) Evanston police swarmed around the area of Main Street and the North Shore Channel late this morning after a report of a burglary.

Police Commander Tom Guenther says the incident began when a women returned to her home in the 2300 block of Bradley Place and found a teenage boy in her son’s bedroom, although her son wasn’t there.

Though she recognized the youth as an acquaintance of her son, Guenther said, he had no business being in the house and fled down an alley toward the canal when she confronted him.

Police responded quickly and took a youth into custody along the canal banks, who later was identified by the woman as the person who’d broken into her home.
