The Evanston Police Department is planning an eight hour “virtual ride-along” for Twitter users on Friday Nov. 4.
Direct from the 911 Dispatch Center, almost all emergency calls will be tweeted from 3 to 11 p.m. that day.
“With this project we hope to help citizens get a glimpse into a day in the life of Evanston Police,” said Erika Storlie, interim citizen engagement division manager.
Storlie said the project is an effort to engage residents in new ways and let them gain a better understanding of the quantity and nature of calls the 911 center receives.
Domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse calls will be omitted due to their sensitive nature.
A volunteer will run the feed from the dispatch Center. The feed will be available at twitter.com/CityofEvanston.
