Evanston police today released a composite sketch of the assailant in an attempted sexual assault last month in Brummel Park.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says  a 38-year-ld Evanston woman was pushing her two-year-old child in a stroller at the park at Brummel Street and Elmwood Avenue about 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, when she was struck in the back of the head by a man, knocking her to the ground.

Dugan says the offender got on top of the victim and began removing some of her clothing, but she screamed and fought the offender, which attracted the attention of witnesses in the area.

The offender fled westbound on Dobson Street on foot.  The victim was bruised and scratched from the incident, but did not require medical attention.  The victim’s child was not physically injured during the incident.

The offender is described as a light-skinned black or Hispanic male, 5-feet-6-inches tall with a thin build, short hair and thin beard.  The offender was last seen wearing a red tank-top and grey pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Evanston Police Department at 847-866-5000 or utilize Text-A-Tip at CRIMES (274637) and entering EPDTIP in the message line with the tip information.
