Evanston police Thursday released a surveillance video that may help them find a suspect in a sexual assault Tuesday on Howard Street, but they need help from the public.
The attack occurred at about 6 a.m. in the 1700 block of Howard Street.
In the video, the suspect can be seen (in the top right corner of the image) forcing the victim across the street in between moving traffic and into the gangway of the vacant building at 1717 Howard St.
Moments later, the victim reemerges and runs west toward the intersection of Howard Street and Dodge Avenue (California Avenue in Chicago), but the suspect does not reappear.
Police are hopeful that someone traveling through the area around 6 a.m. Tuesday may have seen something that would help identify the suspect, described as a 30-year-old black male, dark complexion, thin build, wearing a baseball cap and black T-shirt.
Anyone with information about the attack should contact the department’s Detective Bureau at (847) 866-5040 Anonymous tips can also be submitted by text messaging to CRIMES (274637) followed by EPDTIP in the message line and then your tip information.
