Evanston police are asking for the public’s help in identifying possible witnesses to a downtown shooting incident late Saturday night that left two teenagers injured.

The police have retrieved video from a surveilance camera mounted not far from the shooting scene on Benson Avenue near Davis Street that shows a man taking photos just before the shooting begins. Several other people can also be seen in the video.

Police are asking that the photographer or anyone else in the area who may have witnessed the shooting contact the Evanston Police detective bureau at 847-866-5040 with any information that could be helpful in the ongoing investigation.

One of the shooting victims, a 17-year-old male, was released from Evanston North Shore Hospital Monday after treatment for a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

The other victim, a 16-year-old male, remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit at the hospital.

  1. Where is the rest of the story

Starting with the original story no further information has been forthcoming.  I realize an investigation is going on but who shot whom.  Were the youth who were shot from Chicago or Evanston.  What about the 17 yr. old, is he considered a youth or an adult.  Which I suppose has a bearing on how much information can be revealed. Where are the responses from the leaders in this community, the churches, the civic leaders the politicians.  Have we stuck our heads in the sand and hope this is an aberration and not a peek at the future.  We don’t seem to mind reporting when Northwestern students are victimized why all hush hush now.

I agree with John — the other part of the story is missing. When was this shooting, at what time? I understand that when NU student are the victims, the university helps with the reporting, but  I think in these cases it is important to be proactive. The police crime report for 8/9 recorded the time as 11:42PM and described the incident and people in the video seem to be coming out of a train, perhaps? More detailed reporting might help the investigation.
