A 21-year-old Chicago man is facing aggravated unlawful use of a weapon charges after he allegedly fled from Evanston police during a traffic stop on Howard Street Tuesday night.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says that when officers stopped a car for minor traffic violations near Howard and Asbury about 9:30 p.m., the front seat passenger fled the vehicle westbound on Howard.

Dugan says officers caught up with the man, Valgas D. Etheard of 7200 N. Claremont, but he continued to resist officers who eventually found a loaded Smith and Wesson .357 revolver in his waistband that had been stolen in Chicago.

Etheard now is scheduled to appear in Skokie district court on the weapons violation charge as well charges of resisting arrest and unlawful possession of cannabis.
