Evanston and Chicago police have halted a southbound train on the CTA Red Line to search for a suspect in what’s believed to have been a strong armed robbery incident in Evanston.

A woman reportedly told Evanston police she’d been robbed about 11:30 this morning in a shop in the 300 block of Howard Street and that the robber had gotten on a train at the Howard Street station.

Update 11:51 a.m.: The train was stopped just short of the Thorndale station and officers reportedly have entered the train and have managed to take a suspect into custody.

Update: 11:56 a.m.: Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther says the robbery victim is now being taken to the Thorndale station to see whether she can identify the suspect as the robber.

Update 12:08 p.m.: Officers reportedly are taking the suspect, who’s said to have an extensive criminal record, to the Evanston Police station for questionning.
