Evanston police say a man is in custody after allegedly trying to run down a police officer with his car.

Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says officers responding to a domestic violence call in the 600 block of Hull Terrace about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday spotted the suspect, identified as Calvin Walker, 27, trying to flee the scene.

As Walker allegedly tried to run down one officer, the officer’s partner fired a single shot, Parrott says, hitting the car, but not striking anyone.

Parrott says Walker, who allegedly was high on drugs, continued to flee from the scene and  was stopped some time later by Chicago police.

Parrott says Chicago officers boxed in Walker’s vehicle with several police cars in an alley off the 7500 block of Damen Avenue after Walker allegedly hit one of the Chicago police cars.

Parrott says Walker has been charged with domestic battery and that other charges against him are pending in Evanston as a result of the confrontation with police.

He says Walker is also facing charges in Chicago relating to the Tuesday night incident as well as another incident in Chicago a couple of weeks ago.
