Power was cut to the Evanston Public Library downtown shortly before noon today when a contractor accidentally severed an electric cable.

Library Director Karen Danczak Lyons says the library is now closed for the day, and she hopes it will be able to re-open tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, both the north and south branch libraries remain open.

Update 9:02 p.m. 8:30/16: City officials now say the library will reopen at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31.
