In this afternoon’s sweltering heat a small section of southeast Evanston is without power.

ComEd reports 27 customers are affected by the outage, which neighbors say has knocked out power to the townhomes in the development at 840 Michigan Ave.

So far no other reports of outages, even though the National Weather Service says the temperature has reached 99 degrees.

Laura Beth Nielsen, who lives near where the outage occurred, told Evanston Now she heard an explosion, like a transformer blowing out, just before the power went out.

ComEd’s website says they hope to have power restored within a couple of hours.
