Over 1,000 customers are without power and Evanston’s Noyes Cultural Arts Center is closed today because of a blown electrical transformer on Simpson Street near Ridge Avenue.

City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz says city officials plan to email Noyes tenants about the closure and put signs on the doors to notify the public.

Bobkiewicz said the city has no estimate yet of when power may be restored, but Commonweath Edison says on its power outage website that it’s hoping to have power restored within an hour.

Update 9:07 a.m.: ComEd now indicates power has been restored to the affected area.

Update 9:52 a.m.: Bobkiewicz says the Noyes Center has now reopened.
