Com Ed reported about 840 customers were without power in Evanston this afternoon after a power outage that hit about 1:50 p.m.
The area affected by the power failure includes an area along Church Street west of Asbury Avenue.
Com Ed says it hopes to have power restored to the area by about 3:45 p.m.
Update 2:50 p.m.: Power was restored to at least part of the affected area around 2:36 p.m. And when the power came back on it triggered a number of false fire alarms — including ones at Alison Hall at 1820 Chicago Ave. on the Northwestern University campus and at Roycemore School at Ridge Avenue and Davis Street.
Update 3:55 p.m.: Com Ed now says power has been restored to all the customers affected by the widespread outage in Evanston this afternoon — but a few scattered outages remain — affecting about 20 customers in widely scattered areas on either side of Church Street — ranging from downtown to west Evanston.
Update 5:44 p.m.: Most of the scattered outages now have been resolved — but the one remaining problem affects the 909 Davis office building downtown. Com Ed says it expects to have that problem fixed shortly.
