Evanston and Skokie residents can save money on their 2008 beach tokens during the annual preseason token sale.

Beach tokens will be sold at the discounted resident price of $22/person from now through June 13.

Fee assistance is available to help qualified Evanston residents with the purchase of tokens. In addition, a limited number of free tokens are available to residents who meet income guidelines. For more information, call 847-866-2900.

When Evanston’s five swimming beaches open for the season on Saturday, June 14, token prices will increase to the regular season rate of $30 each for residents.

As in past years, daily beach passes will continue to be sold at beach entrances for $7 for those age 12 and older and $5 for children age 1-11. Children under one year of age are admitted free.   Tokens can be purchased at all community centers and the Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave. To obtain the discount, proof of residency is required at the time of purchase.

The Department of Health and Human Services will announce social service site distributors of free beach tokens closer to the summer months; however, the Department, located in the Evanston Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., will begin distribution of free beach tokens beginning April 1.

In addition, the Recreation Division, also located in the Civic Center, will also become the newest distributor of the tokens.   Families must bring proof of income when requesting free tokens at either location. Families of two must make less than $18,264 to qualify.   More details about the income scale and other distribution points are available by calling the Department of Health and Human Services at (847) 866-2958.
