Prince Harry’s fiancée graduated from NU

The announcement today that actress Meghan Markle has become engaged to Great Britain’s Prince Harry was welcome news at Northwestern University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003 and appeared on the Evanston campus as recently as 2014.

Markle was a star in the USA Network series, “Suits,” whose cast appeared in Evanston in February 2014 on a seven-university campus tour to promote the show.

During a question-and-answer session during her appearance, as reported in the Daily Northwestern, Markle said she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and spent her freshman year as a resident in the North Mid-Quads Hall on campus.

A university spokesman said that Markle, who attended NU from 1999 until her graduation in 2003, majored in both theatre and international relations.

Laura Wayland, executive director of the Northwestern Alumni Association, noted Monday that Prince Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana, visited the campus in 1996, “so we are particularly pleased to welcome Prince Harry to the extended Northwestern family.”
