Property sales in Evanston picked up last month, recording their best March performance in the past three years.

A total of 75 properties changed hands, up from 65 during the same month a year ago.

The city took in just over $137,000 from its half percent tax on most property sales, compared to just under $126,000 in March 2012.

For the year so far sales are down 2 percent from year-ago levels. In creating its budget for 2013, the city forecast that sales this year would be 28 percent higher than the $1.63 million total recorded for 2012.
