The Chicago Transit Authority board today voted to drop plans to eliminate the Purple Line Express rush hour service from Evanston to downtown Chicago.

The board also voted to reverse its earlier decision to eliminate service on the Skokie Swift or Yellow Line.

CTA officials say they still hope the state legislature will provide funding to avoid the remaining scheduled service cuts and layoffs, but that without that funding the cuts will go into effect on Sept. 16.
