Here’s  a recap of our live coverage of tonight’s Evanston City Council Planning and Development Committee meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m.

Meeting started at 7:50 p.m.

Minutes approved.

P1 – Sidewalk cafe for Naf Naf Grill, 1620 Orrington Ave.. Approved.

P2 – Sidewalk cafe for DMK Burger & Fish, 815 Noyes St. Alderman Judy Fiske, 1st Ward, seeks assurance that won’t be any alcohol served at the sidewalk cafe. Community Development Director Mark Muenzer says that’s correct, that no sidewalk cafes at Type II restaurants are allowed to serve liquor.

Alderman Delores Holmes asks about spacing on the sidewalk. Restaurant owner says it will have 24 inch tables and two chairs per table.

Fiske says its a very congested sidewalk and especially in the evening there’s lots and lots of foot traffic.

Alderman Ann Rainey, 8th Ward, says a lot of business districts would like to have more congestion.

Sidewalk cafe approved.

P3 – Approval of $300K forgivable HOME loan to Community Partners for Affordable Housing to rehab a five-unit apartment building at 1620 Washington St. Approved.

P4 – Security cameras for Claridge Apartments, 319 Dempster. Approved.

P5 – 1026 Davis … zoning relief for rear yard setback and zero parking spaces. … the Lulu’s and Taco Diablo’s project at old Tom Thumb hobbies site. Related story.

Dan Kelch, owner of Lulu’s and Taco Diablo. Says each of the new restaurants will be about the same size as the old Taco Diablo — about 60 seats in each restaurant.

Capacity for the event space upstairs is still being determined but could be as many as 150 for a seated event.

Alderman Melissa Wynne, 3rd Ward, says it’s appropriate to not have parking as part of the project given the proximity of the Sherman Plaza garage.

Approved.

P6 – Zoning ordinance map amendment from I2 to R4 for 1409 Dodge and 1825 Greenwood.

Rainey says she’ll vote against it because she’s opposed to eliminating industrial zoning in the city.

All others vote in favor, so its approved.

P7 – Zoning ordinance relief for the same two properties regarding setbacks, parking and having two principal structures on one lot.

Rainey says she thinks it’s a fabulous project … but still votes no.

All others vote in favor, so its approved.

Meeting adjourned at 8:14 p.m.
