Evanston’s track team scored a pair of relay victories and the Wildkits added individual wins from Will McMichael in the 400 meter dash and Jonathan Wilburn in the triple jump Saturday at the Capital City Classic in Springfield.

Those efforts clinched a second place team finish for Coach Don Michelin’s squad, which was outscored by champion Bloomington 74-72 at the 21-team invitational.

Evanston ruled the 3200-meter relay in 8 minutes, 6.73 seconds behind the unit of Julion Michelin, Joe Eovaldi, Alex Tokmakoff and Max Peterson, two seconds faster than runnerup Chatham Glenwood. The 1600 relay team of Michelin, McMichael, Logan Singer and Ayoub El-Ashmawi combined for a winning time of 3:27.02.

McMichael claimed top honors in the open 400 in 50.54, and Wilburn turned in the best triple jump at 44 feet even for the Wildkits.
