Evanston’s track team scored a pair of relay victories and the Wildkits added individual wins from Will McMichael in the 400 meter dash and Jonathan Wilburn in the triple jump Saturday at the Capital City Classic in Springfield.
Those efforts clinched a second place team finish for Coach Don Michelin’s squad, which was outscored by champion Bloomington 74-72 at the 21-team invitational.
Evanston ruled the 3200-meter relay in 8 minutes, 6.73 seconds behind the unit of Julion Michelin, Joe Eovaldi, Alex Tokmakoff and Max Peterson, two seconds faster than runnerup Chatham Glenwood. The 1600 relay team of Michelin, McMichael, Logan Singer and Ayoub El-Ashmawi combined for a winning time of 3:27.02.
McMichael claimed top honors in the open 400 in 50.54, and Wilburn turned in the best triple jump at 44 feet even for the Wildkits.
Also scoring top 6 individual finishes for ETHS were Singer, 2nd in the 800 in 1:59.18; Matt Caines, 2nd in the triple jump at 43-2; Trey Dawkins, 5th in the shot put at 46-0 and 6th in the discus at 116-8; El-Ashmawi, 5th in the 400 in 52.79; Sacrad Michelin, 5th in the 200 in 23.52; and Eovaldi, 6th in the 1600 in 4:32.40.
The Wildkits placed 3rd in the 400 relay in 44.53 and added a 5th in the 800 relay in 1:34.63.
