Victories in both the 400-meter and 1600-meter relay races powered the Evanston girls track team to a third place finish overall at the Midwest Prep Invitational in Indianapolis.

The same foursome — sophomore Amari Johnson, senior Jania Banks, junior Takina Taylor and freshman Astraya Alexander — teamed up to win both races for ETHS. They ruled the 400 in 48.46 seconds, then came back to take top honors in the 1600 in 4:01.27.

Parker English dominated the long jump with a best effort of 18 feet, 6 inches, a foot and a half farther than the nearest competitor.

Evanston racked up 64 points overall and trailed only host Lawrence Central (65.5) and Columbus North (65) in the 26-team field.

Also scoring top 8 finishes were Ashley Vesotsky, 6th in the 1600 in 5:21.65 and 7th in the 800 in 2:26.68; English, 3rd in the 200 in 24.65; Alexia Harvey, 3rd in the 100 hurdles in 15.31 and 6th in the 300 hurdles in 48.58; Remy Amarteifio, 3rd in the 300 hurdles in 47.15 and 4th in the 100 hurdles in 15.55; and Shahara Mitchell, 6th in the shot put with a toss of 38-7.5 inches.
