Evanston police say a resident of the 1200 block of Wesley Avenue helped them catch a burglary suspect Monday.

Police say that the resident saw a man break a rear window of a home on the block about 10:22 a.m., enter the house and then moments later flee on foot.

The resident called police with a description of the man, and officers who searched the neighborhood on foot found a man fitting the description and stopped him.

Police Commander Tom Guenther says the resident positively identified the suspect as the burglar and that, when officers patted down the suspect, they found stolen items in his possession.

The suspect, Miguel Angel Martinez, 22, of 7318 Oakwood in Lyons. has been charged with residential burglary. He’s scheduled to appear in Skokie district court on Nov. 17.
