The Evanston/Skokie School District 65 board this week named Carlos Mendez principal of Bessie Rhodes Magnet School.

Mendez had been serving as interim principal since the beginning of the school year.

“During his initial year at the school, Mr. Mendez has embraced parents, teachers and students as an instructional leader and advocate for the school,” Superintendent Hardy Murphy said in a statement.

Mendez previously served as an assistant principal at Haven Middle School and was assistant principal at Albany Park Mutlicultural Academy in Chicago from 2007 through 2011.

He holds a master’s degree in school leadership from Concordia University, a master’s degree in urban teaching from Columbia College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida International University.
