The new Todoroki hibachi and sushi restaurant at 526 Davis St. in downtown Evanston  held its grand opening ceremony this evening.

City officials including Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and Alderman Don Wilson, 4th Ward, were on hand for the event.

The restaurant has been open for a few weeks now and has received glowing reviews from folks who’ve tried it out.

In addition to freshly made sushi, the restaurant features a separate room with counter-style seating arranged around hibachi grills where chefs with a theatrical flair cook a variety of dishes as the diners watch.

Todoroki is Wendy Cheng’s first venture as a restaurant owner. Heading up the kitchen staff is Ben Sun, whose previous head chef experience includes six years at a popular Chicago-area sushi establishment.
