Don’t try to drive down Ridge Avenue in Evanston Sunday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., the city warns, for it will be closed for the annual Bike the Ridge Drive.
During those hours, all vehicular traffic will be diverted to the side roads, while those on non-motorized bicycles will enjoy a pleasure that comes only once a year.
By the way, motorized bicycles and skateboards will be prohibited as well.

Because residents along Ridge will be unable to use their driveways between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., the city is recommending that affected residents park on a side street before 8 a.m.
East/west streets that intersect with Ridge Avenue and have a traffic signal will be open as normal, but unsignaled side streets will be barricaded and will not have access to Ridge Avenue.
Children under the age of 18 are welcome to participate in Bike the Ridge, but they are reminded that city ordinances require them to wear helmets.
