Evanston police are on the lookout for a robber who alledgedly struck a 31-year-old man in the head with a gun and took his cell phone Monday afternoon.

The victim said he got off the CTA el at South Boulevard at about 6 p.m. and headed towards Oakton Street and Callan Avenue when he was approached by the suspect, who appeared to be between the ages of 16 and 18, police said.

The robber displayed what looked like a black handgun and demanded the victim’s cell phone, according to police.

A struggle ensued, and the offender struck the victim in the head with the gun and took the man’s cell phone. The victim was treated at St. Francis Hospital for his injuries.

The police describe the suspect as a 5-foot-10-inch-tall black male weighing 140 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black shirt, with white writing, and khaki pants.
