Northwestern University police say a female NU student was robbed of her cell phone at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday as she walked on Emerson Street near Sheridan Road.

Police say the victim was walking eastbound on the north sidewalk of Emerson when she was approached by two men walking westbound. One grabbed her smart phone out of her hand and ran westbound on Emerson while the second man continued walking westbound.

Neither man said anything to the victim. No weapon was displayed, and the student was not injured. She went to her residence hall and called police.

Both Evanston and University police responded but were unable to locate the offenders.

The victim described both suspects as black males in their early 20s with a medium build, between 5-feet-8-inches and 5-feet-10-inches tall. The man who took the phone was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt while the other man wore a burgundy hooded sweatshirt.

Evanston police are investigating the incident. Persons with information are asked to call the police at 847-866-5000.

  1. Cell phone robber just released from jail

A guy who served time for stealing a cell phone from an NU student a couple blocks away in April was recently released from jail in the past week.

Given the recidivism we see from the Evanston criminal class, lets hope the EPD has the intelligence to do a proper investigation.
