Two robberies, three shots fired, and two thefts of catalytic converters were among the crimes committed in Evanston over the weekend after a late-winter lull. These among the stories in today’s crime bulletin from Evanston police.
ROBBERY
2200 Howard
An 18-year-old woman was approached from behind by a black SUV in the parking lot in the 2200 block of Howard Street at about 8:40 p.m. Friday. A passenger in the vehicle grabbed the woman’s backpack off her shoulder and knocked her down, then fled the scene. The victim did not require medical assistance, police said.
1800 Maple
A 29-year-old man was approached from behind on the street near the Maple Avenue garage by a suspect identified as a tall Black male who claimed he had a knife and demanded the victim’s money. The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
SHOTS HEARD
200 Dewey
Gunshots were reported at 9:42 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Dewey Avenue. Police checked the area but found nothing.
200 Ridge
Gunshots were reported in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue at 10:05 p.m. Saturday. Police checked the area but found nothing.
Lyons at Leland
Gunshots were reported at 10:05 p.m. yesterday at Lyons Street and Leland Avenue. Police checked the area but found nothing.
THEFT
600 Forest
A catalytic converter was removed from a 2001 Volvo in the 600 block of Forest Avenue between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 4 p.m. Thursday.
2100 Sherman
A catalytic converter was removed from a 2002 Mazda in the 2100 block of Sherman Avenue between February 1 and 4:41 p.m. yesterday.
500 South Boulevard
A 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was stolen from the 500 block of South Boulevard between 5:30 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday. It was recovered later in Skokie.
700 Main
Jewelry was stolen from a store in the 700 block of Main Street around 5 p.m. Friday.
1600 Sherman
A cell phone was taken from a store in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Friday.
BATTERY
Crain at Wesley
Shelton L. Bell, 46, of 1411 Greenleaf St., was arrested at Crain Street and Wesley Avenue at 12:13 a.m. today and charged with battery. He is due in court on April 9 at 10:30 a.m.
BURGLARY
1400 Brummel
An unlocked rear door provided access to a home in the 1400 block of Brummel Street for a burglar around 12:30 a.m. today. Missing was a wallet and its contents.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
2400 Main
Someone broke the window of a 2010 Nissan in a parking lot in the 2400 block of Main Street between 9:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. yesterday.
DRUGS
1454 Elmwood
John Adamidis, 46, of 8033 Parkside Ave., Morton Grove, was arrested at Evanston police headquarters at 5:20 p.m. yesterday and charged with possession of prescription forms.
