Santa is scheduled to make an early appearance in Evanston on Saturday for the annual tree lighting ceremony downtown.
Because of construction in Fountain Square, the tree lighting will take place at a different spot than usual — the Church Street Plaza, next to the Metra Station at the intersection of Church Street and Maple Avenue.
In addition to Santa, Mayor Steve Hagerty will be on hand for the event and there’ll be music from the Evanston Children’s Choir, Evanston Own It, and old-timey carolers.
The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. with the tree lighting scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Before the tree lighting kids will have a chance to write letters to Santa and enjoy a cookie at Lumen Optical, 809 Church St. from 3 to 5 p.m.
After the tree lighting, there’ll be an opportunity to visit with Santa at The Crystal Ballroom & Lounge, 1611 Chicago Ave. and with Mrs. Claus at Hilton Garden Inn Chicago North Shore/Evanston, 1818 Maple Ave. to take photos and warm up with hot chocolate.
