Even though schools closed Feb. 9 because of the snow, it appears likely that the last day for students this year will remain Monday, June 4, under a proposal discussed Monday night by the Evanston/Skokie District 65 School Board.

To make up for the snow day, however, teachers would remain on the job for a full day of training on June 5.

A final vote on the proposal will be taken next Monday, but no opposition developed on the part of board members Monday night, and administration officials said that the teachers union had already expressed its support for the change.

Then next school year, teachers would report for work on Aug. 21, instead of Aug. 23, for two additional days of training before students return for the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 27.

District Superintendent Paul Goren said that an official announcement of the calendar changes will come next week, assuming that the amended calendars are approved by the Board at its March 19 meeting.
