Evanston/Skokie School District 65 is surveying faculty and staff, parents and other local residents about the performance of the schools.

Superintendent Hardy Murphy says the survey developed by the ECRA Group consulting firm will be sent to parents by mail and will offer the option to complete either a paper or only version of the survey.

Other feedback will be solicited from telephone calls to try and reach the broader community, Murphy says. Because callers are selected randomly, parents may receive a telephone call in addition to the mailed survey, but they’re asked to respond to the mailed survey, which will provide more detailed information.

Murphy says the surveys help carry out the school board’s strategic plan goal to gather feedback from community stakeholders.

  1. Students?
Schools are supposed to teach students, so the school system should be surveying them too. There is (complicated) evidence that schools which focus on areas of education (eg career preparation vs academia vs good citizenship) that meet students’ interests get better outcomes. ECRA lists student surveys as among their survey types.
