The first Evanston/Skokie PTA Council meeting of the 2010-11 school year is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Hill Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Ave.

Meet the new PTA Council president and join other PTA Council reps to plan for this year’s activities. PTA Council is the umbrella association for all school PTAs and PTSAs in the area served by School Districts 65 and 202.

The PTA Council helps parent activists network and exchange ideas.are: 1) to gather and disseminate information among member PTAs from local, district, state and national PTAs, from the school boards and district administrations, as well as from other sources; 2) to provide for networking and the exchange of ideas; and 3) to produce parent/community programs. Classes start Monday, Aug. 30, but students will have two days off early in September. Schools will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 6.
and again on Thursday, Sept. 9.

The District 65 school board holds its first working meeting of the new academic year on Monday, Sept. 13, with public session beginning at 7 p.m. in the administration building at 1500 McDaniel Ave.

School events

The Lincolnwood Elementary School Back to School Family Picnic on Thursday, Sept. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. will be held on the school playground at 2600 Colfax St. All Lincolnwood families are invited to this opening of the school-year event sponsored by the school’s PTA. Walker Elementary School will unearth a time capsule buried on the school grounds 20 years ago during an open house and ice cream social starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2. The school also plans to start the cycle anew by burying a new time capsule that evening. Walker School is located at 3601 Church St. For more information, call the school at 847 859-8330.
