Seven new COVID cases here, 1,348 statewide

Snow storm appears to have reduced testing and vaccinations. But reported cases fall to a level not seen since early September.

Evanston health officials reported seven new COVID-19 cases today, down from 14 yesterday. The city’s COVID-19 death toll remained unchanged at 110.

Statewide there were 1,348 new cases today, compared to 1,420 yesterday, for a new total of 1,164,922.

The Illinois Department of Public Health today reported that 40,354 people were vaccinated yesterday, compared to 39,863 the day before, and the seven-day average fell to 63,772.

A total of 1,863,561 vaccine doses had been administered as of yesterday, about 75% of the total 2,474,875 doses distributed to the state by the federal government. The IDPH says 3.42% of the state’s population is now fully vaccinated.

Illinois reported 32 COVID-19 deaths today, compared to 41 yesterday, for a new total of 20,034.

The state reported 46,630 COVID-19 tests today, compared to 52,389 yesterday.

The IDPH reported tests of 239 Evanston residents today, compared to 2,157 yesterday. The IDPH found 14 positive cases here for a daily positive rate of 5.9%.

The state now says Evanston has had a total of 3,929 cases. The city’s case count is 3,789.

Chicago reported 195 new COVID-19 cases today for a total of 241,128 and 13 more death for a total of 4,795.

Suburban Cook County reported 253 new cases today for a total of 225,742 and 11 more deaths for a total of 4,388.

The IDPH reported that the deaths in Cook County included a man in his 40s, a woman and and a man in their 50s, a woman and five men in their 60s, two women and five men in their 70s, two women and three men in their 80s and two women and one man in their 90s.

As of last night, 1,726 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 385 patients were in the ICU and 179 of those were on ventilators.
