A severe thunderstorm, heading southeast across northern Cook County, could swoop through Evanston around 2 p.m. this afternoon.

At 1:10 p.m., the National Weather Service in Chicago said the storm was producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour.

From Lake Zurich, near the Wisconsin line, the storm was expected to pass through Lincolnshire around 1:35 p.m., Prospect Heights around 1:50 p.m., and Highland Park and Mount Prospect around 1:55 p.m.

The weather service advises seeking shelter in a sturdy structure and away from windows until the storm has passed.
