Evanston Police report a man was shot in the 1900 block of Dempster Street Thursday afternoon.

The incident reportedly happened around 4 p.m. The victim left the scene in a vehicle but then stopped in the 1100 block of Lake Street where he was treated by Evanston Fire Department paramedics and transported in stable condition to a hospital.

Police say the gunman has fled the area. Businesses in the area remain open and streets are not blocked, but there is a large police presence.
